I am an Accredited Member of the BACP and work with adults and children aged eleven and over as I firmly believe that our mental health influences both our physical and emotional wellbeing and so should be viewed as a priority rather than an ‘after thought’.
As an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor I incorporate several different models and theories into my practice and I create an individual therapy plan for each of my clients to enable them to access their subconscious, increase their self awareness and recognise any repetitive and possibly harmful patterns of behaviour.
I ran my own business in Harrogate and Leeds for over 20 years and so I can totally empathise with work related stresses. I also worked for a domestic abuse charity and I have seen for myself the devastating effects that physical and emotional abuse can have on both the individual and wider family members and so my work focuses on helping my clients to regain their identity, rebuild their self esteem and move forward as survivors not victims who are defined by their experiences.
I was part of a multi disciplinary team in a residential setting working with young people who had complex mental health needs and I saw how difficult it can be for children and carers to access mental health support which is why I completed Advanced Specialist Training in Counselling Children and Young People CPCAB Level 5 Certificate. I am committed to ensuring that the children and young people I work with really feel that they are heard which enables them to access their feelings, deepen their understanding and together we can develop appropriate coping strategies.
